Hine Junior High School

Back
Address: Square 0901 Lot 801
Description: EastBanc, Inc. (partnered with Stanton Development and Esocoff and Associates Architects) was awarded by the District of Columbia the rights to develop the site of the former Hine Junior High School located between 7th and 8th streets SE, and across Pennsylvania Avenue from the Eastern Market Metro Station in the heart of Capitol Hill.

This will be a mixed-use development for the site that is as richly diverse, architecturally distinguished, and historically rooted as the surrounding Hill community. The development will complement Eastern Market, providing new space for farmers and flea markets, as well as new “bricks-&-mortar” retailers. It will include over 100 residential units (both market-rate and affordable), office space above ground-floor retail, nearly 250 spaces of underground parking that will serve both the project and the neighborhood, as well as a piazza for gathering and special events. Alternatively a hotel could occupy the residential building at the corner of 7th and C Streets. This major community-development project will welcome new residents with a diversity of ages and income levels. When completed, the Stanton-Eastbanc project at the Hine School will feel like a part of the neighborhood that has been there forever.
